Artist Statement
This installation invites guests to slow down, reflect, and connect through shared words and collective meaning. Guests interact with three themes—Beauty, Truth, and Love—through a hacked vintage rotary phone, being asked a simple reflective question on these topics. Visitors’ spoken responses are processed through an AI language model that collaborates with diverse historic visionary voices to generate personalized haikus. These poems are instantly printed for guests to take home and displayed on a large communal screen, weaving an evolving, collective poem that celebrates community storytelling and self-inquiry.
To ensure these haikus reflect thoughtful and culturally rich perspectives, the AI draws from a purposefully diverse library of over 160 global thinkers spanning 45+ countries and Indigenous nations. This includes Sufi mystics, African novelists, Indigenous storytellers, East Asian sages, and European reformers. Grounded in this broad human lineage, the installation honors cultural literacy and invites each participant to join a global collective consciousness as part of an ongoing conversation in pursuit of understanding: beauty, truth, and love, the basis of who we are.
